The drawings of Zóbel: an appreciation / Arturo Rogerio Luz -- Introduction / E. Aguilar Cruz -- A note on the sketchbooks / Fernando Zóbel -- Plates / Fernando Zóbel -- Notes on the plates / Fernando Zóbel.
"In a sense these sketchbooks are a kind of diary. Primarily they contain quick impressions of things observed, but in many cases there are studies, more or less elaborate, for future paintings ... The vast majority of the sketches are executed with fountaninpen and black ink, but there are a few watercolors. At times I've done sketches on bits of scrap paper, paper napkins, etc. which have been pasted into the books ... In arranging the drawings for reproductions, we decided not to stick to a relatively meaningless chronological order; instead we arranged them very roughly by subject matter." -- A note on the sketchbooks.
